The American won by three shots from an inspired Rory McIlroy who produced the round of his life at Augusta with an extraordinary 64.
Scheffler had a one under round of 71, missing two short putts for a double bogey on the 18, to finish on 10 under par.
Australia’s Cameron Smith finished on five under alongside Ireland’s Shane Lowry. World number six Smith was aiming for a unique double of Players Championship and Masters victories, but couldn’t overtake McIlroy and Scheffler.
McIlroy, who has been struggling for a while with his game, raised hopes of a sensational comeback when he holed out of the greenside bunker on the 18th, to move within three shots of the lead.
However, the World number one held his nerve to clinch his maiden major title and first Green Jacket.
The US Ryder Cup star held a three-shot advantage overnight and continued his dominance in the sport with another commanding performance.
It has been a truly remarkable start to 2022 for Scheffler who going into the start of the season had not won a tour event.
He broke his duck with a win at the Phoenix Open in his 71st senior tournament, then adding both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
Whilst he remains the standout player in 2022, Australian Smith isn’t to far away from winning a major.
As well as the Players Championship, the Australian also claimed the Tournament of Champions and looks set for a very bright future.
Aside for the fight to for the Green Jacket, all eyes remained firmly on Tiger Woods as he continued his remarkable comeback from a life-threatening car crash.
Woods was given another emotional reception after completing 72 holes at the Masters in his first competitive appearance since his horrific accident back in February.
After carding a round of 74 on Friday it was guaranteed the big crowds at Augusta would see more of the legend that is Woods. Unfortunately, his final 36 holes didn’t match up to the previous 36 and he eventually finished 13 over par after two 78’s.
But he is back, which is wonderful news for the lovers of golf, with the possibility that he is likely to compete in the Open this summer.
