Fulham look to get title charge back on track against lowly Peterborough United

Marco Silva’s Fulham side will see a home game against Peterborough United as a favourable way to get back to winning ways.

The most potent attack in the division coming up against the second leakiest defence. All of the facts and figures would point towards a comfortable win for Fulham, but in sport, nothing is guaranteed.

Following a disappointing 2-1 loss at home to Huddersfield Town in the weekend’s early kick-off, the Cottagers will be eager to get back to winning ways and maintain a healthy advantage at the top of England’s second tier.

Without a league win since December 11th, Posh’s return to the Championship has been a rather more dismal one.

Sometimes football can be quite simple, exemplified by the fact that if you have the second worst goalscoring and defensive records in the league, you probably are not going to be doing all too well. Whilst this may not be groundbreaking analysis, Peterborough are yet to find the formula to string together some form and as such have seen long time manager Darren Ferguson resign from his role.

So, with the club sitting five points from safety, Posh need to quickly find a manager that is going to steer them in the right direction. Until then, the man in charge is one Matthew Etherington. The 40-year-old started his career at London Road and will look to steady the ship for Posh until a permanent replacement is found.

As far as first assignments go, a trip to Craven Cottage has to rank up there with one of the toughest, and if his side were to get anything from the game, it would be a huge success.

However, a one-sided thrashing is by no means set in stone as it took a moment of class from Aleksandar Mitrovic to separate the two sides in November in what was a surprisingly even contest.

Peterborough will hope they can muster some similar form but with a better result in this encounter.

The league leaders are still without Terence Kongolo whilst Peterborough added the suspension of Hayden Coulson to their list of absentees which includes Mark Beevers, Dan Butler and Jack Taylor.

Fulham could actually extend their lead at the top of the Championship with a win as Bournemouth are not in action and a stuttering Blackburn Rovers side face in-form Sheffield United.

An unlikely victory for Peterborough would see them keep themselves in touch with Reading, and more importantly, safety.

These two sides may well be going in opposite directions but both will go head to head with the common cause of obtaining a crucial three points at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.
