Storm Eunice has forced the Cardiff City Stadium to close despite the Blackpool home clash on the horizon.

It was confirmed on Thursday 17th February that Cardiff City’s stadium will be closed as a result of the Met Office’s red weather warnings as a “danger to life” with extremely strong winds for much of the UK on Friday.

Blackpool will be looking to make amends for their dropped points at Coventry City and the agonising 2-1 home defeat to title challengers AFC Bournemouth.

The Seasiders now sit in a more comfortable 15th position in the Championship table, 20 points off relegation and six points above their opponents Cardiff, who have experienced a tricky first half of the season sacking manager Mick McCarthy and dabbling with relegation.

However, the Bluebirds are confident manager Steve Morison is the man for the job for the remainder of the 2021/21 season.

Blackpool will make the trip to South Wales on Saturday knowing they have previously lost their last two fixtures against the Welsh side.

Cardiff, having scored nine goals in their last five matches are enjoying a new rich vein of form winning four of their last five league games and playing some of their best football at home all season.

As of today, Friday, February 18th, Cardiff City announced that the Championship fixture with Blackpool remains unaffected at this stage.

For any fans wondering, the ticket office will re-open for in-person and telephone ticket sales at 10am on Saturday 19th February.

The Met Office for Wales have only issued red weather warnings four times prior to Storm Eunice which is going to bring damaging and disruptive weather conditions for the majority of the UK today.

With 60-70mph winds most likely for the majority, the strongest winds are expected to be from the south of Eunice with exposed coastal areas possibly seeing gusts of up to 90mph.

People in and around Cardiff should remain safe in the comforts of their own homes and look forward to tomorrow’s game with the opportunity to draw level on points with close rivals Swansea City.
