Bolton Wanderers end their poor run of form with a resolute win over Ipswich Town

Bolton Wanderers ended a poor run of five straight defeats with a much-needed 2-0 home win against Ipswich Town.

Even though the Tractor Boys were dominant in the possession, the Whites’ second-half goals was enough for them to gain the three points.

Both sides had chances in the first period but it was Kieran Lee that opened the scoring for the hosts in the 74th minute.

Bolton opened up the Ipswich defence with beautiful one-touch passing before Aaron Morley fired a shot goalwards. His effort was saved by goalkeeper Christian Walton, however, he failed to keep ahold of the ball and allowed Lee to smash the ball in from close range.

Ian Evatt’s side doubled their lead through goalscorer Dapo Afoloyan. Morley’s ball looked to find the forward but George Edmundson was there to clear things up. However, the Ipswich defender’s poor back pass allowed Afoloyan to take advantage and give his side a well-earned 2-0 win.

Bolton can now breathe a sigh of relief after shattering their poor run of form and getting back to winning ways. The victory moves the Whites up to 17th whilst Ipswich slip down to 11th after recording their first league defeat in four matches.

After the match, Bolton Wanderers manager Ivan Evatt expressed his relief after getting a much-needed victory.

“We’re feeling joy tonight and it’s been a long time waiting.”

The 40-year-old also gave his thoughts on the future and the optimism in the squad on what seems like ‘a new journey’.

“This is hopefully the first step on a new journey for us. I like to think I know what I’m doing, although not all Bolton fans would agree with that over the last few months I guess.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich’s new boss, Kieran McKenna, was less than joyful after his side were defeated by the resolute Wanderers.

“We conceded two poor goals out of nothing. This is definitely a bump in the road for us.”
