Cardiff City battle with loan problems as the January transfer window continues to throw twists and turns

Championship club Cardiff City are already busy battling with the complexities of the loan system as the latest transfer window brings problems and opportunities.

One player that has left the Welsh outfit is Ryan Giles as Wolverhampton Wanderers recalled the midfielder back to the club this week.

The 21-year-old has been a creative spark for the Bluebirds this season with Cardiff experiencing limited excitement as they sit close to the relegation zone.

Giles, alongside Dion Sanderson, have both returned to Molineux as a result of the continued COVID-19 cases in the Wolves squad and uncertainty over player availability.

The Bluebirds will certainly miss the zip of Giles and the service he gave to forward Kieffer Moore.

The young duo could head back out on loan once the issues at the West Midlands club ease, with it being unknown if they will return to the same clubs. With players being unable to represent more than two teams per season though, fingers will be crossed in Wales that their creative spark this season is able to make a return.

Birmingham City and Cardiff will be hoping that they can re-secure the services of the youngsters if they are allowed to temporarily depart once more, but it would be no shock to see more Championship clubs with an interest in the pair.

Max Watters and Ryan Wintle have returned to the Bluebirds following loan spells at Blackpool and MK Dons respectively as Steve Morison looks to shuffle his squad.

However, suggestions that the Bluebirds may pursue Liverpool and Wales international Nico Williams and even Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey may be slightly far-fetched.

Meanwhile, Bluebirds youngster Chanka Zimba has joined Northampton Town on loan for the rest of the season to gain valuable experience in League Two.
