Andrade set for fifth defence of the WBO Middleweight title against ferocious Quigley

Demetrius Andrade faces yet another Friday night DAZN fight as he takes on Jason Quigley in New Hampshire.

After flying below the radar for a number of years, Andrade has built up a head of social steam and made a name for himself calling out various fighters.

Unfortunately, for one reason or another, the big name fights haven’t come to fruition as of late. At 33 years of age, some would argue time is running out for those fights to be made. However with Andrade still in his prime, the WBO strap he has will attract many brilliant fights.

The sixth challenger looking to halt these plans and dethrone Andrade is Jason Quigley. The Irishman has spent most of his recent career fighting in the USA for Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ and earned himself this big opportunity off the back of his majority decision victory over Shane Mosley Jr.

With a knockout percentage of over 75%, there can be an argument made that Quigley has the power to trouble the champion. That being said, the calibre of opposition that the Irishman has fought are far from the level of Andrade.

For Andrade, he has to continue proving himself against the opponents put in front of him for those big fights to occur.

The awkward style of the American has proved too much for all, including Welshman Liam Williams in his most recent outing.

It has been rare for ‘Boo Boo’ to be hurt in his career as one of his most prized attributes is being able to hit whilst avoiding hits. However, it was evident that Williams hurt the WBO champion as the fight reached its close and Andrade was found holding on for the championship rounds.

For Quigley, this is potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity to win a world title, whereas for Andrade it’s all about keeping his strap, maintaining his flawless record and setting himself up for a long awaited major fight night.
