Carlin Buzz Racing’s Jonny Edgar shines some light on how he has found the step up from Formula 4 into Formula 3.

The Red Bull Academy driver has made a rapid rise through the ranks and at just 17 sits two steps away from Formula 1.

Edgar spent the last two years gaining experience in various F4 Championships, notably winning the ADAC Formula 4 Championship, and made the step up to F3 this year after a couple of successful tests for MP Motorsport and his current team Carlin Buzz Racing.

So far this season, he’s noted two fifth-place finishes alongside a sixth-place and a 10th place at the Red Bull Ring during round three of the F3 Championship.

The 17-year-old told Prost International’s Adrian Kita the main differences he has encountered since moving up into F3 from F4.

“Yeah, I think the car obviously is one the main differences from the F4 car. The lap times are a lot faster and the braking and downforce was the biggest thing to get used to.

“Another big difference between F3 and F4 is the limited track time that you have in Formula 3. In F4, you test the track at least two days before you race and there’s a lot more race weekends so it gets very busy.

“Whereas now in F3, you have a lot more time off in between races as well and then on a race weekend you only have a few laps in practice heading into qualifying which is a massive difference between F3 and F4 aswell.”

He will be looking to continue his good points scoring fortunes into this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix with the rookie sat 10th in the Drivers’ Championship on 23 points.
