Steve Cooper’s Swansea face Plymouth Argyle at Home Park tomorrow evening.

This comes after a rigorous fortnights programme at Pennyhill Park, embedding new arrivals and returning loan players back into the setup.

The Swans were victorious in their opening fixture of pre-season behind closed doors against Newport, winning 5-0. A brace from Liam Cullen and goals from Ben Margetson, Yan Dhanda and Joel Latibeaudière secured the win.

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper spoke about the importance of pre-season and allowing players to build fitness ahead of a challenging 2021/22 season.

“This week has been a great exercise for the players,”

“It’s the first time we’ve played in pre-season and at this stage it is all about minutes and fitness and conditioning the players, as well as technical and tactical work.

“While it’s good to build fitness, the lads have applied themselves really well – not just this week but ever since they returned at the start of pre-season.

“They all came back in excellent condition. To have the season we did last year in terms of the schedule and the short turnaround from the end of the previous campaign, means the players deserve great credit for how they have looked after themselves over the summer.

“The pre-season fitness tests were extremely positive and from that point it is about getting the players back onto the grass and getting minutes in friendly games.”

They face Plymouth Argyle, who are set for another season in League One after their 18th placed finish last term, and will also be looking to build fitness and embed new signings.

Cooper is expected to take a mixture of youth and first-team players to the south coast, with kick-off at 7pm tomorrow.

The match is available for viewing for free on the Swansea website.
