Castleford Tigers capture highly rated Jake Mamo from Warrington as of 2022

Castleford Tigers have today announced the signing of centre Jake Mamo as of the start of the next campaign from Warrington Wolves on a three-year-deal which will see the Australian stay at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle until the end of the 2024 season.

One of Warrington’s standout players so far this season, Mamo scored a hat trick at the DW stadium last night to help Wire defeat Wigan Warriors, and picked up the Man of the Match award.

In his post-match interview, the 27-year-old revealed that he had agreed a deal for the 2022 season but could not say who with. Now, we know that he will be appearing in the colours of the Tigers, and Mamo told Cas’ official website that he’s delighted to finally be able to announce the deal.

“I’m really excited to get it done and I am happy to be coming to a club like Cas, I’ve played against them for the last five years and whenever you go there, even though the crowd is against you, it is always a great atmosphere.

“I am pretty excited to be playing there with the crowd on my side for once! It is an exciting place to be at, a club with such good history.

“I can’t wait to hear the fans chanting and shouting in the stands! It is a great stadium, and I am going to bring more of what I have been showing this year, ready to kick off the start of 2022 with a bang!”

Mamo’s head coach at the ‘Fords’ – Lee Radford – will be joining the club at the same time as him and is ecstatic to have secured the speedy centre’s services ahead of his own arrival.

“I am over the moon! Jake is a very athletic rugby player, and he plays with a smile on his face. The more I looked into his background, the more good things I heard about him. He is certainly going to give us strength on that edge going into 2022.

“The fact he can cover full back and wing is great, but I think that he is a strike centre, he ticks a lot of boxes in the athleticism department. He has speed and you can’t coach that, and he has got it in abundance, I’m sure we can try to put him in as much space as we possibly can.”

The Australian began his career in his homeland with Newcastle Knights before eventually signing for Huddersfield Giants in 2017. It is at Warrington where he has prospered most however, with Wire since 2019, and it is there where he will see out the remainder of this contract until the end of the 2021 campaign.

While Mamo is excited for the move to Yorkshire, he does wish to thank all at Warrington for the support that they have shown him.

“The fans of Warrington have been good to me, and I’ve got good friends here, so it is sad leaving but also there is a chance that we can do something good this year. I am enjoying it at the moment, and we are doing pretty well so it would be really good to end the year with a bang.”

Mamo had been strongly linked to Cas for a few weeks, but all parties involved will surely be relieved now that the deal has been announced though Wire will be disappointed to lose a player of his quality. They – and Mamo – are next in action on Monday (July 5) at home to Leeds Rhinos.
