A depleted Leeds Rhinos face an unbeaten Wigan Warriors at Headingley

A return to Super League action tonight for both Leeds and Wigan. The Warriors will face a depleted Rhinos side who have several key players out through injury.

Richard Agar has seen a disrupted start to the season for his team. Following an opening round win against Wakefield Trinity, his side were beaten against rivals Castleford, and were knocked out of the Challenge Cup- a competition they won last season. The squad has even more injuries and a suspension for marquee signing Zane Tetevano following his sending off in the Challenge Cup match against St Helens.

Whereas the Warriors look to be improving week after week. The Leigh Centurions came close to an upset in round one taking an 18-0 lead but back came Wigan winning the game 20-18. They comfortably beat Wakefield a week later, and knocked out a stubborn York City Knights in the Cup last weekend.

Team News

Leeds Rhinos

Leeds will be without a number of key players for the game against Wigan. The absentees are Jack Walker, Callum McLelland, Harry Newman, Richie Myler, Luke Gayle, King Vuniyayawa, Ash Handley, Konrad Hurrell, Rob Lui and Tom Holroyd.

Zane Tetevano will also be missing through suspension. A positive is the return of Liam Suitcliffe and Boden Thompson and the potential debut for Kyle Eastmond.

Wigan Warriors

The Warriors have key players missing themselves with Dom Manfredi, Liam Marshall, Jai Field and Oliver Gildart all missing out. Bevan French was named in the 21-man Squad and is in contention to feature. Adrian Lam said this in his press conference.on the full back.

“He will be part of the squad this week no doubt. He’s better off than he was a couple of weeks ago. We will give him the rest of the week to see if he is good to play at the back end of the week”

“We are taking a precautionary route with him because you’re seeing so many soft tissue injuries at the moment, so we’ve got to make sure he’s ok and ready to go.”

Leeds haven’t beaten Wigan in the league since their 32-16 home win in 2017. They have a tough test ahead of them on Thursday night to come away with the victory.
