England look to bounce back in second ODI in Pune

England meet India in the second ODI of the series tomorrow as the tourists look to respond to a disappointing defeat in the first game in Pune.

Eoin Morgan’s side were well set on 135-0 in pursuit of 318 for victory largely thanks to a brilliant knock from Jonny Bairstow (94) but the Yorkshireman wasn’t backed up with no other player scoring over 50.

Morgan admitted there were positives to take despite the loss in the end when he spoke to BBC Sport.

England captain Eoin Morgan: “We’ve done a lot of things right today. I thought the bowlers were outstanding, as were our two openers. We failed to continue building. We play an aggressive brand of cricket, we just need to execute better than we did today. This is the way we play and this is the way we’ll continue to play.”

The visitors will likely look to make some changes in order to give some players an opportunity and to get a look at them ahead of the T20 World Cup.

This may see the likes of Liam Livingstone, Matt Parkinson or Reece Topley given an opportunity, however, Morgan will be wary that his side will be displaced as the number one ranked side if they lose 3-0.

England’s death bowling once again come under serious scrutiny with the final ten overs of the India’ innings going for 112 with just one wicket falling as KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya causing havoc late on.

The tourists have chosen to field first every single time they have one the toss in the limited overs series but you wonder if they should change their mind-set if the coin comes out on the right side in the second match of the three-game series with so much on the line.

India have so much power all throughout their team so it’s all set to be another tough test for the visitors in the second ODI in Pune which takes place at 8:am UK time on Friday morning.
