The 28-year-old made his Test Match debut for New Zealand recently, where he scored 43 in his second game.
Young will be available from the very first game of the season and is set to feature three times before Cameron Bancroft comes into the county in May.
The Kiwi has scored over 5000 runs in first class cricket to date with a high score of 162 so far and will be keen to leave a strong impression at the Riverside.
He will miss the first game of the season but is line to make his Durham’ debut on the 15th April against Essex at Chelmsford.
