Afghanistan take control on first day of second Test Match against Zimbabwe

Afghanistan have seized control of the second Test Match against Zimbabwe after a strong performance with the bat saw them close on the opening day on 307-3.

It was the perfect way to respond after being well beaten by ten wickets in the opening game of the series which finished inside two days.

However, it didn’t start well with Javed Ahmadi falling in just the second over with just six runs on the board but a partnership of 50 between Ibrahim Zadran (72) and Rahmat Shah (23) led the fightback before they were both dismissed.

This brought Hashmatullah Shahidi (86*) and captain Asghar Afghan (106*) to the wicket and the pair batted brilliant sharing an unbroken stand of 166 for the fourth wicket to put their side in a comanding position going into Day Two.

The action will get back underway in Abu Dhabi at 5:30am UK time tomorrow morning.
