Northampton haven’t won a game since late December when they took all three points in a gritty 3-1 win against mid-table Gillingham. Although the visitors on Tuesday night are 23rd in the League One table, they will fancy their chances against an Ipswich side who are desperate for wins.
Ipswich and Paul Lambert especially need every win that they can get at the moment, with fans becoming more and more unsettled by the day. On Monday afternoon, a protest was held at Playford Road (Ipswich Town training ground) with fans showing their constant frustration with Lambert.
The infamous ‘Blue Action’ group set off flares during a first team training session as they continued to protest Paul Lambert’s position at the club. ‘We want Lambert out’ chants could be heard from the group outside Playford Road as the first team prepared for their matchup against Northampton.
The Ipswich side won’t let these protests affect them and with the side playing with a lot more passion lately, they will be confident they can overcome Northampton on Tuesday night.
Kayden Jackson is set to return to action following his three-game suspension after his dismissal against Sunderland. The striker may not start on Tuesday however, with new signing Troy Parrott starring in his first two games against Blackpool and Peterborough. The Irishman is still in search of his first goal for The Tractor Boys and will hope to make a good impression against The Cobblers with competition heating up for a starting place in attack.
Jon Brady has promised a positive change against Ipswich after the 2-0 loss to Burton, with the Northampton boss saying:
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity, we’ve got a real focus on what we can do better and one thing I would say is that we’ve been indecisive in important moments and there won’t be any more of that.”
The game should be a close one with both sides in desperate need of wins respectively. Ipswich are the favourites to edge the clash and will be disappointed with anything but three points against a Northampton side who look destined for relegation.
