Olamide Shodipo continues to impress for Oxford United after securing a brace in what was a scintillating display against Burton Albion.

The 23-year-old has put his stamp on this Oxford United side since making a loan switch from QPR in the summer. The U21 Ireland international has seven goals to his name this season after scoring a brace against Burton Albion on 2 January 2021.

Shodipo worked his way into the team after being rotated with the likes of Jordan Obita throughout the start of the season, the winger has looked to cement his name on the team sheet in recent weeks after being a part in what is a seven-league game unbeaten run for the U’s.

Karl Robinson’s Oxford United have provided Shopdio with the platform to be able to showcase himself this season. It is evident that the QPR man has all the tools to flourish on loan and realise his potential before returning to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

The ex-Colchester loanee has previously struggled in the past for game time after several long-term injuries hampering his success in the game although his talent is unquestionable, on his day Shodipo can cause havoc to any defender in the league.

It is regarded as a make or break season for Shodipo this year as he looks to break into the QPR starting 11 next summer, with the Irishman’s contract up in 2022 it looks like it is now or never as he looks to fight for a new contract in West London.

Shodipo joined QPR in 2015 and has been at the club since the age of 18. He has been loaned out to Port Vale and Colchester United but never hit the ground running throughout what has been a disrupted career however last season was his first real opportunity to showcase what he can bring to Mark Warburton’s QPR side.

The young winger failed to make an impact at QPR last season when given his opportunity, making only a handful of substitute appearances. This resulted in current Rangers boss Mark Warburton suggesting a loan move would be right in the bid to gain first-team game time as well as maximizing player development.

Rangers currently find themselves near the foot of the table just two points clear of the bottom three, scoring just three goals in their last five league matches.

After Shodipo’s impressive form, as well as brewing confidence it could be likely that the London based club could take up an option to recall the technical winger in January. As it continues to look likely that QPR will lose star man Bright Osayi-Samuel this window, with very little money at their disposal Shodipo could be the answer in their bid to remain in the division.
