National League weekend round up

National League leaders Torquay United maintained their unbeaten home record by defeating Wrexham 3-1 in front of some fans.

The Gulls were 2-0 up within seventeen minutes through Ben Whitfield’s strike and an Asa Hall penalty. Theo Vassell’s header pulled a goal back for Wrexham before Connor Lemonheigh-Evans sealed the Devon club’s win with 16 minutes to go.

Sutton United kept up the pressure on Torquay after a comfortable 4-1 win over Solihull Moors.

The hosts took the lead through an own goal from Moors keeper Ryan Boot. They doubled their advantage just before the break when Tobi Sho-Silva netted. A James Ball header got Moors back into the contest before Ajiboye restored Sutton’s two goal cushion. Substitute Aaron Simpson wrapped up victory with five minutes remaining.

Gus Mafuta returned back to haunt his old club as Boreham Wood ended a four-game winless run after a 2-1 victory at Hartlepool United.

The midfielder broke the deadlock before half time before Mason Bloomfield levelled on the stroke of half time, only for Mafuta to bag his second of the game to claim all three points for Wood.

Notts County extended their unbeaten run to five games after a narrow 1-0 victory against Woking at Meadow Lane.

The hosts had the best chance to break the deadlock in the 55th minute when Kyle Wootton was fouled in the box. The forward stepped up but saw his spot kick saved by Craig Ross. Wootton made amends for his earlier miss by tapping in from six yards out to get County over the line.

Aldershot ended a three-game winless run after defeating Dagenham & Redbridge 2-1 at the EBB Stadium.

Mo Bettamer got the hosts of to the perfect start after scoring after seven minutes. Harry Panayiotou doubled the shots advantage on the half hour mark. The Daggers pulled a goal back through Dean Rance with a minute remaining, but the Shots held on for the win.

Stockport County completed a 2-0 victory at Bromley on Saturday. Once again, the prolific John Rooney was on the scoresheet along with Alex Reid which was enough to see off Bromley.

Maidenhead climbed up to fourth in the National League with Alex Addai’s goal enough for the victory over Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium.

The visitors had Josh Coley sent off in the 90th minute, but Maidenhead held on for victory.

Halifax Town hit five goals for the second time in a week after thrashing Weymouth 5-1 at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

Within 22 minutes Halifax were two goals to the good through Danny Williams and Niall Maher. Josh McQuoid’s 64th minute header reduced the gap before three late strikes from Gevaro Nepomuceno, Thomas Bradley and Jake Hyde completed a comfortable win for the Shaymen.

Barnet’s winless run stretched to seven games after a goalless draw at the Hive against Wealdstone.

Eastleigh’s next three National League games against Wrexham, Halifax Town and Hartlepool have all been called off following a positive Covid-19 test at the Hampshire side.
