Northampton Town welcome two thousand fans vs Doncaster Rovers

Two thousand fans will be finally allowed into the PTS Academy Stadium for Northampton Town vs Doncaster Rovers in League One this Saturday.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that fans will be finally allowed back in professional league matches from the 2nd December. The number of fans in stadiums depends on which tier the area is in. For Northamptonshire, they are in tier two so they can hold matches in the presence of 2,000 socially distanced fans.

Northampton Town (16th in League One) come into this game in quite good form since they lost 1-0 to Accrington Stanley. Unbeaten in three league games since then and advancing into the second round of the EFL Trophy beating Stevenage on penalties at home. With the arrival of their home fans, the Cobblers look to continue their decent vein of form.

As for Doncaster Rovers (10th in League One) they are without a win in three away league matches and could lose consecutive such matches on the road for the first time since February last season.

Unlike their opponents, they have advanced through the first and second round of the FA Cup winning against United of Manchester 5-1 in the first round and 2-1 in the second round away at Carlisle. Midweek, Doncaster lost 2-1 away at Hull City in the league ending their four match unbeaten run.

Team news

Northampton town have no new fresh injury concerns ahead of the game according to manager Keith Curle. Long term absentees Scott Pollock and Joseph Mills are still out following operations.

Doncaster Rovers have two players out for Saturday’s game. Winger Jon Taylor has been ruled out for the game. Manager Darren Moore says he isn’t going to risk playing him. Taylor has been out of action since the draw with AFC Wimbledon a month ago.

Spanish Midfielder Madger Gomes has also picked up an recurring injury to rule him out. Gomes returned off the bench in last Sunday’s FA Cup game with Carlisle United, having not played since the loss to Crewe Alexandra in October.
