Wasps will face Exeter at Twickenham this Saturday
There is relief in both Coventry and Wembley & Sudbury, after Premiership Rugby confirmed Wasps were cleared to play in English rugby’s showpiece cup final this Saturday after the latest round of testing.
The decision was taken jointly by the Rugby Football Union, Premiership Rugby and Public Health England officials.
Due to a COVID scare, their place in the Gallagher Premiership final at Twickenham against European Champions Exeter had been in doubt, with Bristol Bears prepared to take their place.
Wasps group chief executive Stephen Vaughan reacted with joy and gratitude:
“I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Premiership Rugby, the RFU, Public Health England and Public Health Warwickshire for their clarity and assistance throughout this whole process,”
“As a club, we are delighted that we can now take our rightful place in this Saturday’s Premiership Rugby final. To all of our fans and well-wishers, thank you for your many messages of support, this final is for you.”
Wasps came through after a massive semi final win over Bristol who recovered in time to win the European Challenge Cup over Toulon.
The day after Exeter won the big European prize with a famous win over Racing 92.
Although Wasps beat them in the semi final, Exeter will start favourites after an impressive regular season.
