Bayern ready for clash with relegation threatened Fortuna Düsseldorf

League leaders Bayern Munich will be looking to take one step closer to an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title when they host lowly Fortuna Düsseldorf in the evening kick-off.

Bayern are the only side who can boast a 100% winning record since the league resumed two weeks ago and head into this match seven points clear of Borussia Dortmund.

Fortuna are also unbeaten since the resumption but have just one win from their three matches, which came last time out at home to Schalke. Despite their recent upturn in form they are still in the relegation playoff place and perilously close to the relegation zone.

Team News

The hosts are still without Philippe Coutinho and Corentin Tolisso due to ankle injuries and Thiago who has a groin problem. Niklas Süle and Lars Lukas Mai are also doubts.

The visitors are very close to having a clean bill of health with just on loan goalkeeper Zack Steffen missing with a knee injury.

Home manager (Hans-Dieter Flick)

“I think they make things difficult for their opponents to build-up play. It’s important to stay focused and work as a team on the pitch. Everyone needs to play their part.

“Of course, there were concerns about how the players would cope. It was not so easy to adjust to a competitive level in training. When I look back on the games so far, we’re doing well. I’m happy.”

Away manager (Uwe Rösler)

“As a player and coach, I’ve always had a lot of respect for Bayern. The success of the club speaks for itself. The football they’re playing at the moment is fantastic. Of course, we need some luck, but we want to frustrate Bayern with our play. We need a lot of energy to do that, and we’ll have to run hard.”

Head-to-Head

The two sides have met on eight previous occasions but Fortuna have never managed to win. Bayern have recorded five wins and three draws and will be hoping to continue this streak in tomorrow’s match.
