Leipzig sit third in the table, five points behind leaders and defending champions Bayern Munich, with Borussia Dortmund just a point ahead of them in second. Before the season was halted Leipzig had been unbeaten in their last six matches but had only managed victory in two of them.
Eighth placed SC Freiburg meanwhile, had lost four of their last seven before the season was postponed and will be looking to correct that pattern and finish the season strongly as they attempt to sneak into a Europa League place.
The hosts are without Ethan Ampadu and Emil Forsberg due to a back injury and tonsillitis respectively whilst Dayot Upamecano is suspended.
The visitors on the other hand, have a relatively clean bill of health and are only missing Lukas Kübler due to a knee injury.
“SCF aren’t a certain prospect. They are really flexible, have good players, defend deep and shut down the spaces. I was pretty annoyed after the defeat in the Hinrunde because we were slow in our approach.
“We’d all prefer the fans to be there, for the emotion to be there. That’s what makes football so great. Now it’s gone. We need to push ourselves from within and self motivate.”
“Obviously we’ve not played football for a long time and not had any tackling. Now we have played an 11 vs 11 on Saturday and yesterday. And you can see that the lads have not forgotten how to play.
“The extraordinary situation demands an extraordinary mindset. Not to moan but just concentrate on the present. I’m really looking forward to the game on Saturday. If we’re not allowed to celebrate, whatever. Hopefully we’re not allowed to celebrate three times.”
The two sides have met nine times in all competitions, with four wins each and the other game ending in a draw. Earlier this season it was SC Freiburg who came out on top as they triumphed 2-1 in October.
