Sheffield United continue their quest for European football against Brighton

Sheffield United are currently sixth in the Premier League, one point behind Tottenham who occupy the Europa League spot. A Sheffield win and a Spurs draw will see the Blades move to fifth and a step closer to European football.

The Blades won last time out in the league. An impressive 2-1 win over Bournemouth saw the Blades retain their place in the top six as they continue to push in the hunt of Europa League.

Brighton drew last time out against a relegation battling Watford. Abdoulaye Doucoure gave Watford the lead inside 20 minutes with Adrian Mariappa scoring an own goal which allowed Brighton to take a point from this crucial game.

Team news

Chris Wilder will have a tough decision on his hand as his squad is fully fit with players like John Lundstram looking to get a place in the starting 11 after his winner against Bournemouth

Brighton will assess Dale Stephens’ thigh injury but the midfielder will probably be unavailable, according to head coach Graham Potter.

Potter must also decide whether recent arrivals Alexis Mac Allister and Tariq Lamptey are ready for their debuts.

Blades boss Chris Wilder is expecting a difficult test against Brighton this weekend as the Blades look to get another 3 points on the table.

“Tight game down there, it could of gone either way, they’re a dangerous side and an established Premier League club.”

“We had chance on the counter attack and we had plenty of chances to kill the game off last time against them. I am expecting it to be another tight game.”

The Seagulls boss Graham Potter believes that Albion supporters will soon take a liking to deadline day arrival Tariq Lamptey.

“He’s explosive, very fast and also technically very good. He’s got a nice personality and a really infectious enthusiasm for football which is refreshing. I think our fans will like him. Nobody is perfect, but he has a nice way of conducting himself.

“He can play at wing-back or a bit further up in midfield too. He’s not the biggest, but he carries himself well and is strong in the air.

“What difference does he bring to the squad? Well in comparison to Dan Burn about three foot!

“But that’s what I like about football, competing against an opponent no matter what the circumstances.”

Head-to-head

This will be the first time Sheffield United have hosted Brighton in a top-flight game. The Seagulls’ last match at Bramall Lane was a 3-1 defeat in the Championship in January 2006.
