Burnley look to build on form when Bournemouth come to town

Burnley welcome AFC Bournemouth on the weekend in an encounter that Bournemouth need to win in order to climb away from the bottom half of the table.

The hosts were able to beat Southampton last weekend. Ashley Westwood gave the Clarets the lead after two minutes. Danny Ings scored for the Saints after 18 minutes, but Matej Vydra’s goal on the hour mark gave Burnley the win.

The vistors have had a lot of rest with the Cherries playing their last league game on the 9th February against Sheffield United. They weren’t able to get a good result against the Blades. Goals from Billy Sharp and John Lundstrum cancelled out Callum Wilson’s opener.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche says Chris Wood has a chance of featuring despite coming off against Southampton last week with a hamstring complaint.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is available after seven weeks out with a knee injury, but Ashley Barnes and Matt Lowton remain on the sidelines.

Bournemouth welcome back Jefferson Lerma from suspension.

David Brooks, Lloyd Kelly and Arnaut Danjuma are all nearing a return but are not yet ready to feature.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche feels vindicated by his insistence that Burnley were close to turning the corner, ahead of their stunning return to form.

“People can question that because they can get blinded by results – we all do that at times – but I didn’t think we were a million miles away from delivering the details that you need.

“That’s all that was missing in those four games, and it’s not easy to get everything right in a game.

“More often that not, we’ve been making good, rather than bad decisions and certainly we’ve done that over the last four games.

“Now we have to keep the focus in both boxes, because that’s where games are won and lost, but more generally in our performance.

“If we do that, we’ll enhance our chances and I’ve drummed that into the players.”

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says David Brooks has had his “best week yet” as he steps up his return to first-team action.

“Our long termers are still out and no-one will be returning for this game,” said Howe in his pre-match press conference at Vitality Stadium. “They are making good progress and we have a group of four players who are making progress slowly.

“David Brooks has probably had his best week yet, his ankle felt stronger, with minimal pain in there, but he’s still got a way to go.”
