Manchester City ease their way past Fulham to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup

Manchester City dismantled Championship side Fulham in a comfortable 4-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Gabriel Jesus, IlkayGundogan and Bernardo Silva ensured the Citizen’s got past Fulham with ease. It did not help Fulham that their captain Tim Ream was sent off in the sixth minute after giving a penalty away which saw City open the scoring from it.

Tim Ream made a mistake which put City through but Riyad Mahrez wasn’t able to find Ilkay Gundogan with the Algerian’s pass going behind the German midfielder.

Opening five minutes belonged to City, with the reigning Premier League champions dominating possession.

In the sixth minute, a fantastic ball from Gundogan saw Jesus through, with Ream pulling the forward down. Subsequently referee Kevin Friend awarded City a penalty and sent the Fulham player off.

Ilkay Gundogan scored the penalty slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Another great chance from City as they found freedom on the left-hand side. David Silva slid the ball forward for the oncoming Angelino with the defenders shot narrowly missing the target.

Fantastic skill from Mahrez saw his shot saved by Marek Rodak. The winger was able to get past the Fulham backline with Rodak getting down low to save the ball from going into the back of the net.

City saw themselves 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes. Bernardo Silva found a pocket of space outside the box with the Portuguese winger curling the shot with his left foot beyond Rodak to double City’s lead.

Kevin Friend blew the whistle to end the first-half with Manchester City close to securing they progression into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The opening five minutes of the second-half saw City carry on their domination with the City’s front three trying to make it 3-0.

Just before the hour mark, City were unlucky not to make it 3-0 with Sterling’s shot bouncing out of play off the crossbar.

A minute later City were through again, Jesus finding himself in a one on one situation with Terence Kongolo’s vital tackle denying the Brazilian striker of a goal.

After a VAR check, City made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute. A fantastic cross from Joao Cancelo picked out Jesus with Rodak unable to save the ball from going into the back of the net.

Minutes later Gabriel Jesus scored his second of the game which put City 4-0 up. A high press from City saw Foden able to take a shot with Rodak unable to parry the ball to safety, ending up with Jesus following up for the rebound.

The referee blew the whistle for full-time with City comfortably getting through this game.
