Sherrock creates history at World Darts Championship

In a momentous year for Women’s Darts, 25-year-old Fallon Sherrock has become the first to beat a man in the World Championship.

Sherrock began her professional darts career at the age of 18 in 2012, and picked up the Gold Masters and the Women’s Jersey Open.

She has reached four Women’s World Championship Quarter Finals in the BDO as well as finishing runner up to Lisa Ashton in 2015, all in the BDO side of the Darts split.

Sherrock became the second female to feature at this years’ more prestigious PDC World Championship, after Japanese qualifier Mikuru Suzuki was defeated by John Richardson on Sunday. She though is the reigning World Champion.

Suzuki walked on to the Pinkfong hit ‘Baby Shark’ – much to the annoyance of the young Dad’s in the crowd. Sherrock arrived to Last Friday Night (TGIF) by Katy Perry – and it was a Tuesday night that she would never forget.

Facing off against World number 95 Ted Evetts, another rising star aged 22, the two battled with longevity and quality throughout the five sets.

Sherrock fell behind after losing the final leg with a missed 106 checkout, but levelled things up after 13 and 12 darters finished with a cool 80.

Another lost set saw Evetts miss crucial doubles, eventualising in Evetts missing a crucial double eight in the final leg of the deciding set. Sherrock cleaned up the double 18 to take the win and become the first ever woman to win at Alexandra Palace.

“I am speechless. I don’t know what to say. Thank you every one. I feel really happy because I have made something for women’s darts.

“I can’t believe it. To do that on the biggest stage, wow. I am so happy that I can continue it rather than go out.

“This is definitely one of the best moments I’ve had. I’m just so happy. I’ve just made history. I can’t believe it. I’ve made a great achievement for women’s darts.”
