Bundesliga matchday 11: Der Massacre

Bayern dominates, Freiburg continues, Foals galloping to the title and more managerial changes in the Bundesliga matchday 11.

Bayern was looking to be returning to winning ways under Hansi Flick, and it is funny how things returned as Munich dominated Dortmund 4-0.

Without skipping a beat from their win in the Champions League, Bayern were able to find the winning formula again against Dortmund. BVB is the biggest rival in terms of fans. Robert Lewandowski added two goals to his tally of 16 in 11 matches. Der recordmeister is temporarily able to go second and we will see where things go.

The Royal Blues were looking to go to second in the Bundesliga and were optimistic vs. Dusseldorf, but Rouwen Hennings had different ideas in this three-goal thriller.

Schalke had been having issues with their offence, but against Fortuna there seemed the solution to their goal woes. Three goals from all over the pitch would have seemed enough, but not so. Take out Dusseldorf’s Rouwen Hennings from the season and they’d have a total of six goals in 11 matches. A second-half hat-trick was able to get a share of the points and one that was a great individual performance.

In honour of Reunification Day, Hertha Berlin fans had a great tifo display while they were unable to overcome an RB Leipzig side who looked super dominant in a 4-2 win.

BSC got off to a flying start through Maximilian Mittelstadt, but that was almost the prod in the side to get a reaction. Two goals for Timo Werner and singles for Marcel Sabitzer and Kevin Kampl demonstrated how the East German club is on a real tear.  In their last four matches, they have put away 20 goals to demonstrate the talents of the squad.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

FC Koln took an early lead, but self sabotaged themselves in conceding two goals to lose 2-1 vs. Hoffenheim and afterwards fired manager Achim Beierlorzer.

Union Berlin ran out to an early three-goal lead to only concede two goals while still earning the three points, 3-2. Mainz reacted by firing manager Sandro Schwarz.

FC Augsburg knew vs. Paderborn they were in a relegation six-pointer and a 1-0 win moved them out of the relegation zone.

Borussia Monchengladbach knew that they needed to win to stay up in the Bundesliga and ran out to a three-goal lead before Bremen got a freebie goal in the dying moments. A 3-1 win keeps the Foals up by four points.

In the original El Plastico, Bayer Leverkusen kept their good mojo going with a 2-0 win away to Wolfsburg.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s slide post-Bayern win continued as an early sending off and a goal were all that was needed for SC Freiburg to come away winners.

Player of the Week:

Rouwen Hennings. Take him out of the line-up for Dusseldorf and they don’t have anywhere near the goals. He has found his vein of form which could mean they don’t get too close to the relegation zone this season.
