Terriers boss Danny Cowley full of praise for Bees

Huddersfield manager Danny Cowley was full of praise for Brentford despite his side inflicting a 1-0 defeat on the West London side.

The Terriers defeated Brentford at Griffin Park thanks to Karlan Grant’s 62nd minute strike. It was a game that lacked any real quality with Cowley’s side sitting back for the majority of the game and Brentford lacking the quality needed to unlock a stubborn Huddersfield defence.

However, Cowley was full of praise for the Bees.

Speaking in his post match press conference he said, ‘we knew we were going to play a Brentford team who were in a good moment that were very confident.

There’s a lot to admire at Brentford in terms of the way they recruit, in terms of the way they develop the players they recruit and the club that they are becoming.

‘I was full of admiration for Brentford, they will be right up there, out of every team we done analysis on I think they were the best.’

Prior to the game, Brentford were on a three match winning streak having beaten London rivals QPR and Millwall as well as promotion favourites Swansea.

The Bees will be disappointed to have dropped points at home, where many teams have struggled to get a result in recent times. The result means that they drop to 13th in the league standings.

Many thought that Brentford were going to struggle this season having lost talisman Neal Maupay to Brighton over the summer. The Frenchman was the second-highest Championship goal scorer last season with 25 goals. However, Thomas Frank’s side have fared well without Maupay with Ollie Watkins filling his boots.

Watkins has mainly been deployed on the wings or behind the striker throughout his Brentford career but he was picked to be the man to replace Maupay. He has not disappointed, chipping in with ten league goals already. Said Benrahma has also been a sparkle this season and if Brentford can deliver some consistency they could be dark horses for promotion places in their last season at Griffin Park.
