The Premier League is never short of top linked talent from all over Europe and Timo Werner is the latest to join the prestigious will he/won’t he list.

Touted as one of the best attacking prospects in Europe, it could be only a matter of time before we see him playing his trade elsewhere across Europe.

The German has been recently linked with the two most successful English sides of all time, Liverpool and Manchester United. The fierce rivals are set to potentially battle it out for his signature, possibly as early as the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old RB Leipzig forward has had a meteoric rise to the top of Europe’s attacking elite. VfB Stuttgart was where Werner learnt his trade, representing Die Roten at youth level before going on to become the youngest ever player to wear the shirt at professional level as well as the clubs youngest ever goal scorer.

Werner’s record breaking status expanded into the Bundesliga’s record books as well, holding the records for being the youngest player to reach 100 and 150 Bundesliga appearances respectively whilst also being the youngest player to score two goals in a match in top-flight football in Germany.

Netting a humble 13 goals in 95 appearances for VfB Stuttgart, it wasn’t long before the Bundesliga’s Bond villain RB Leipzig came knocking with a £12.6 million fee, wading off opposing interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. This season alone, the young striker is boasting an impressive nine goals and three assists in the Bundesliga’s opening ten games.

From the two English clubs rumoured to be interested in the German, it is without doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Red Devils who are more desperate for goals.

With just 13 goals in 11 league games so far this season, Manchester United have been under fire following the departure of Romelu Lukaku in the summer having not opted to sign an alternative. Links with Wissam Ben Yeddar and Mario Mandžukić appeared over the summer yet nothing came to fruition as Belgium international Lukaku transferred to Italy and has since been in fine form for Inter Milan, scoring nine goals in 11 outings.

With a rumoured buyout clause of only £27 million, Werner could make for an excellent addition to Solskjær’s side to ease the goalscoring burden currently placed on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool however have no shortage of fire power at the club with goals being scored seemingly from players all over the pitch. Yet a potential link up with a fellow countryman like Klopp could be enough to sway Timo to the Merseyside outfit.

The rumours to Liverpool have been circulating for a few years despite Liverpool’s arguably already seamless attacking options already. Klopp has not publicly addressed the links to the striker as of yet.

Wherever is next for Werner in England or elsewhere, the young German is foraging his path towards becoming one of the most-sought after strikers in Europe.
