Mansfield Town look to bounce back at home against Cambridge United

Mansfield Town are back at home on Tuesday night as they face Cambridge United in an exciting encounter that the Stags need to win in order to gain some momentum.

Mansfield Town host Cambridge United at the One Call Stadium in what needs to be a good display for the Stags. In their previous game, Mansfield lost 1-0 away to Crawley after a deflected shot by Beryly Lubala beat Conrad Logan to give Crawley all three points. Cambridge beat Crewe 3-2 in a game that saw a red card and a tightly contested game.

Team news

Mansfield Town will be without Craig Davies and Jordan Graham who are recovering still from ankle and knee injuries. Defender Hayden White who is back in training is unlikely to feature alongside with frontman Nicky Maynard who has a hamstring injury. Bobby Olejnik will also miss the game with the goalkeeper nearly back to full fitness.

The U’s have no injuries to report on and can play a strong side against Mansfield Town.

Stags’ boss John Dempster has revealed that he plans to ‘freshen up’ Mansfield’s starting XI for tomorrow’s visit of Cambridge United to One Call Stadium.

“The bonus of a Tuesday night game is if the Saturday hasn’t gone to plan, you get a chance to put it right quickly,” he said.

“We’re going to play on the front foot and get after Cambridge – it’s important we do that at home. There will be some changes and we’ll freshen it up.

“We want to give some other players the opportunity and it will be up to those players to grasp it and want to keep their shirt.”

Cambridge United head coach Colin Calderwood spoke to the press as the U’s look  to make is consecutive league wins against Mansfield on Tuesday night.

“The determination and the character from the boys is unreal. Especially in our last game against Crewe. They went 1-0 down and showed that character against 10-men to win the game 3-2 in the end.

“The trip to Mansfield will be tough they are a good opposition and will likely look to be on the front foot at all time tomorrow evening against us. I hope that this game will be an exciting encounter to watch.”

Head-to-head

In the last five encounters between the two clubs, Mansfield have won three games and drawn two meaning they are unbeaten against the U’s.

Expected line-ups

Mansfield Town’s XI- Logan; Benning, Pearce, Sweeney, Gordon; Khan, Bishop, Tomlinson; Hamilton, Rose, Sterling-James.

Cambridge United’s XI- Mitov; Taft, Ward, Darling; Hannant, O’Neil, Carruthers, Lewis, Knoyle; Smith, Richards.
