Unbeaten Leicester hope to add to Manchester United burden

Brendan Rodgers will hope his side can continue their unbeaten start to the season whilst adding more pressure to his Manchester United counterpart this weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under some scrutiny in recent weeks with poor form and abject performances, only the blistering start by new signing Daniel James has given the Old Trafford faithful reason for optimism so far this campaign.

Leicester meanwhile, join Manchester City and Liverpool as one of just three teams yet to be on the losing side so far this season. Jamie Vardy has found his goalscoring touch against as he helped fire his side to wins over Bournemouth and Sheffield United. Whilst draws against Chelsea and Wolves mean the Foxes sit on eight points, three more than this weeks opponents.

Team news

Manchester United have a number of injuries to add to their woes. Paul Pogba will miss out alongside Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw. Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly continue to miss out through injury whilst Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are doubts for the game. Both should undergo a late fitness test before kick off.

Leicester continue to be without long term absentees Matt James and Daniel Amartey. Wes Morgan has a lower back issue and may not be available for the weekends fixture.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The Manchester United manager lamented his sides injury woes in his pre-match press conference;

“The treatment room’s been busy and still is. So we don’t really know who’s gonna be available… there’s maybe Aaron [Wan-Bissaka], maybe Jesse [Lingard] and I think maybe that’s it from the ones that pulled out [of international duty]. But I can’t promise those two will be available either.

“We hope more can be ready for West Ham next week and Paul [Pogba] and Anthony [Martial] are in that category, I think they’ll be ready for then and I can’t say more than that really.”

Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers was questioned about Kelechi Iheanacho, who has struggled for game time since his move to the King Power stadium;

“He’s very much a part of the squad. We have a really tight training group which he is a part of. During the course of the season we are going to need all the players. Over the summer we strengthened the squad so everyone is going to be competing for a place He trains really hard whether he is in the squad or not.”

Head-to-head

Manchester United have not lost to Leicester City in five years, since that famous 5-3 comeback by the Foxes under Nigel Pearson. The Red Devils did the double over the 15/16 Premier League champions last season, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford, with Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw with the goals.

Expected line-ups

Manchester United – De Gea; Young, Lindelof, Maguire, Rojo; McTominay, Mata Pereira, Lingard, James; Rashford

Leicester City – Schmeichel; Pereira, Evans, Soyuncu, Chilwell; Ndidi, Maddison, Tielemans; Barnes, Albrighton, Vardy
