Tyson Fury to face Otto Wallin in Las Vegas

Former Heavyweight World Champion Tyson Fury will face Otto Wallin in Las Vegas on the 14th of September.

The September 14 date was expected to be a Golden Boy and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez event after traditionally fighting on the weekend of the Mexican celebration ‘Cinco De Mayo’ throughout his career. Canelo, arguably the biggest fighter in world boxing failed to secure an opponent, subsequently leaving that date free.

Fury and his promotional company Top Rank capitalised and will now face the relatively unknown Swede, Otto Wallin. The Gypsy King’s opponent is unbeaten in 20 bouts but has a paper thin résumé, with no names in the top 50 on his record.

Since agreeing a lucrative deal to fight out in the States with hall of fame promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank, the 30-year-old has opted to fight a lower tier of fighters and hold out for the Deontay Wilder rematch, which is anticipated to take place in 2020.

Fury (28-1-0) said:

“I am pleased to be back in Las Vegas. I loved my time there in my last fight and am going to put on a show again.

He is a southpaw, which will bring its own obstacles, but I will be fully focused to get this job done because the rematch (with Wilder) needs to happen.”

Despite the pair being on a collision course to lock horns again after their controversial draw last year, Wilder is set to face Luis Ortiz first in November.

However, the Briton stated to ‘BT Sport’ that he’s in no mood to wait for the ‘Bronze Bomber’ and is open to fighting back in the UK before the year is out:

“After the Ortiz fight, Wilder isn’t going to be ready to fight again in February. So after I beat Wallin, I am going to fight again in December back in England.”
