Reds snap up Fulham wonderkid for undisclosed fee

Liverpool have signed 16-year-old Harvey Elliott, the Premier League’s youngest ever player, for an undisclosed fee.

Elliott became the youngest ever player at 16 years and 30 days in the top flight when he appeared as a substitute for Fulham in a 1-0 defeat to Wolves in May.

He made his senior debut aged just 15 in a Carabao Cup match with Oxford United last September.

Elliott is known for his dribbling ability and superb first touch, and drifts between central and wide roles.

“I am so happy to be able to announce that I have signed for Liverpool FC. To have joined the club that I supported as a boy is a dream come true for me and all of my family and it’s an incredible feeling to now officially be able to call myself a Red!

“I can’t wait to get started and it will be a truly special feeling to pull the famous red jersey on. I’ll work as hard as I possibly can for the club and I feel Anfield is the perfect place for me to develop and progress as a player.”

This seems like a signing for the future from Jurgen Klopp whose only other signing this window came in the form of PEC Zwolle centre-back Sepp van den Berg, who at just a tender 17 is expected to be in and around the first team squad this season.

Both will be in the squad tonight when the Reds face Napoli at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, and could feature depending on Klopp’s thoughts.

Liverpool begin their season next Sunday, when they face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
