Newcastle break transfer record for Joelinton

Steve Bruce has made his first signing as Newcastle manager as Brazilian forward Joelinton signs for Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fruitful first full season in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim, as he contributed seven goals and seven assists to their ninth placed finish.

This form convinced Newcastle and owner Mike Ashley to part with a rumoured 40 million Euros to bring the striker to St James’ Park. The expectation will be on the shoulder of the new signing as he inherits the famous number nine shirt worn by footballing legend Alan Shearer.

Bruce was delighted with the signing, saying;

“The kid has got an exciting time ahead of him. He is a smashing young player and we are obviously delighted to get him. It is been going on for a little bit now, so to get him is great for everybody.

“He has got everything that a modern-day player wants. He is big, strong and athletic, and of course he’s got age on his side too which is vitally important.”

Joelinton could make his Premier League debut against Arsenal on the opening day of the season at St James’ Park.
