Jones appointed new Hatters boss following promotion success

Graeme Jones has been appointed the new manager of Luton Town after clinching promotion to the Championship on Tuesday.

Luton secured their return to the second tier of English football for the first time since the 2006/07 campaign after both Sunderland and Portsmouth lost on Tuesday evening.

Jones replaces Mick Harford, who had been in temporary charge since Nathan Jones’ departure to Stoke in January, in the Kenilworth Road hot-seat.

The 49-year-old’s last position was working alongside Darren Moore at West Brom as an assistant, leaving the Baggies following the termination of Moore’s contract in February. Luton had already agreed terms with West Brom for Jones to arrive at the end of the season before his departure from the Hawthorns as the Bedfordshire side hand Jones his first taste of managerial action.

Luton Town CEO Gary Sweet told the club website:

“We’re delighted to be the first club to secure the managerial services of Graeme Jones. Graeme is a very highly regarded coach and assistant amongst his peers and has caught our eye over the last few seasons as someone who is very hard working, very methodical and thorough in his approach, and a coach who sets his teams up in a manner Luton players and supporters will be accustomed to.”

Jones arrives on a three-year deal until 2022 and will take charge following Luton’s final game of the season against Oxford United.
