Muller, Hummels and Boateng axed as Joachim Low continues the German upheaval

World cup winning trio Jerome Boateng, Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels have all been given the news that they are no longer in Joachim Low plans for selection.

The three are out of the international door as Joachim Low attempts to undergo a transitional period in the German national team, hoping to revitalise a side that got knocked out in the group stages of the 2018 World Cup.

After being accused of having too much trust in the apparent old guard during their disastrous World Cup campaign, Joachim Low now appears to have no room for sentiment for the three players, who have amassed a combined 246 caps for their country.

Speaking to “Bild” Joachim Lowe confirmed the news:

“2019 is the year of the new start for the German national football team. We want to continue the upheaval that we initiated at the end of last year.

“Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller will no longer be in the squad of the national team. It was important to me personally to explain to the players and managers of FC Bayern my thoughts and plans today.”

Despite playing prominent roles in winning Germany’s first World Cup in 24 years and having a largely stellar international career, the Bayern Munich trio are likely to make way for the new generation coming through.

“I thank Mats, Jerome and Thomas for the many successful, extraordinary and unique years together. In the national team, however, it is now important to set the course for the future.

“We want to give the team a new face. I am convinced that this is the right step. In the year of qualifying for the European Championship 2020, we are sending a clear signal of renewal: the young national team players will have the space they need to fully develop. You have to take responsibility now.”

Low will be hoping the likes of Niklas Sule, Leroy Sane and Timo Werner can be at the forefront of the rebuilding process and restore Germany’s supremacy on International football.
