Costacurta blasts Icardi for being ‘self-indulgent’

Former AC Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Costacurta has slammed Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi for being ‘self-indulgent’.

The Argentine forward has not been selected for his club in over a month since being stripped of the captaincy.

The 26-year-old took to Instagram last week to delivered a cryptic statement in which he stated “I don’t know if there’s a respect towards Inter and I on the part of those who make decisions.”

The Argentine also suggested that he had turned down bigger offers to stay with the Serie A giants:

“And, despite everything, I’ve always decided to stay. And for the love of these colours. I’ve refused offers that other players would’ve found difficult to refuse.”

However, Costacurta was unhappy with the post and feels the Argentine forward should apologise for his behaviour.

“I didn’t really like Icardi’s letter, it was self-indulgent,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’ve all had offers, we’ve all had our egos bruised, but none of us wrote a letter to say so.

“The best Icardi will return once he returns to the dressing room and apologises.”

Inter face Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in the Europa League.
