Neil Warnock confirmed the Ivory Coast international ruptured his cruciate knee ligament after the Wolves game - (C) AMA
Cardiff City centre-back Sol Bamba has been ruled out for the rest of the season with after rupturing his ACL.
The defender had to been stretchered off in added time of the first half of Cardiff City’s 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Bamba, 34, had started all but one game, their 5-0 loss to Manchester City in September.
Manager Neil Warnock announced that the defender needed surgery to recover from his knee ligament damage:
“Unfortunately our biggest fears have been confirmed regarding the injury Sol suffered at Wolves on Saturday,” said Warnock.
“Scans have shown that Sol has ruptured his ACL. He will have an operation on Wednesday and therefore miss the rest of the season.
“It is a major blow to the squad but I know all of our supporters will join me in wishing him the very best during his recovery.”
Cardiff will miss Bamba as he’s been a major contributor this season for the Bluebirds, he’s also joint top scorer with four as the side look to stay in the Premier League.
Warnock’s side are currently 18th and are in the relegation spaces after Southampton’s win last week to Fulham as the Welsh side have lost three in a row, losing to Watford, Everton and Wolves.
With only nine games left the Premier League side only have Bruno Ecuele Manga and Matthew Connolly to call upon in the absence of their key defender.
It is expected that Manga will replace the Ivorian as it was him that replaced the defender in added time.
Bamba played the third most for the Cardiff last season when the Bluebirds won promotion, prior to that he commited himself to the club signing a new three-year deal in August 2017.
