Millwall Lionesses aim for revenge as they host London Bees

Last time the Millwall Lionesses played against the London Bees it ended in heartache in the last moments of the game as Lauren Pickett won the match three minutes from time to give the Bees a 2-1 win in the FA Women’s Championship, tomorrow they meet again at Princes Park.

This means that the hosts are after revenge and though this season hasn’t been great for them they did pick up their first win of the year two matches ago as they beat Lewes women to progress in the FA Cup, though have since lost to first tier side Liverpool.

As for the Rachel Yankey’s London Bee’s they are in have lost the last two both 3-0 though losing to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC in the league and Manchester United Women FC are not something to judge by as they are first and second in the league.

The Lionesses have only picked up two points this season meaning they are bottom of the league after 13 matches but have had a number of close games and late minute goals that haven’t gone in their favour. There two draws came against Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

The Bees are fifth in the league and have had a good season they are eight points off Durham Women who have 29 points. Some of their most recent wins include Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Lewes.

Chris Phillips whose the boss of the Lionesses only just got their first win two matches ago and the manager described what it meant:

“The girls have gone through a lot of pain this year, but we knew what we were building here and we knew a win would come. Like I said in my programme notes, in the last two games we have deserved something. This win has been coming.”

Rachel Yankley has only just taken over from Luke Swindlehurst, who left his position last week to take on a new role in Barnet’s youth academy. Yankley who is the caretaker manager until the end of the season said:

“I look forward to continuing to support the club and guide the team for the remainder of the season.”

After 19 games for the Lionesses Evie Clarke is the club’s top goalscorer with five goals, she most recently scored in their 3-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the league on the 27th of last month.

Ruesha Littlejoin is the London Bees leading scorer with also five goals, though has played one more than Clarke. She last scored in their win over Leicester City.
