Supercopa de Espana set for revamp

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have revealed plans to completely change the format of the Supercopa de Espana.

The current format matches the winners of La Liga against the team who lift the Copa Del Rey, much like the Community Shield played prior to the Premier League season in England.

This season saw Barcelona beat Sevilla 2-1 in Morocco to lift the trophy.

The Supercopa de Espana would also be played outside of Spain, as it was this year when it was held in Morocco.

The RFEF president said of the changes;

“The next Supercopa will be played out of Spain again and I will raise to the assembly a new format of a final four, where the finalists of the Copa del Rey and the top two of the league can meet.”

The RFEF and players union have so far objected to the new plans.
