Puel staying positive after Spurs defeat

Leicester City manager Claude Puel is staying positive despite his side losing 3-1 to Tottenham on Sunday.

Davinson Sanchez gave Spurs the lead in the first-half before Christian Eriksen doubled it just after the hour mark.

Jamie Vardy missed a penalty moments before Eriksen’s strike, but did make amends when he scored 15 minutes from the end before Heung-Min Son sealed the Spurs win with an injury-time strike.

The Foxes have not won a Premier League game since New Year’s Day but their French manager remains optimistic.

Speaking with LCFC TV he said:

“We dominated the game. We had a lot of chances, half-chances also, to score and to be leading this game,” he said.

“It’s a shame, a big disappointment at the end, of course, because this is not a fair result and we didn’t have a reward.

“We conceded a goal from their set-piece and after that we had chances to get back in the game…at 2-1 also we could have got back so it’s difficult to accept.” He concluded, “It’s a big disappointment, but encouraging about the quality of the performance.”

The former Southampton manager has found his position under threat of late and recent reports of a rift with star striker Vardy has not helped matters.

His side currently sit 12th in the Premier League, eight points off the relegation places but, perhaps more crucially, six points off the Europa League qualification spots.

They are also out of the FA Cup after being beaten 2-1 by Newport County in the third round and were defeated in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup where they lost 3-1 to Manchester City.
