Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray has called for unity as the club fight off relegation.
Saturday’s 3-1 home loss to Burnley, teamed with other results, sees Brighton currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and just three points off Southampton in 18th.
Murray, 35, is realistic about where the team currently reside in the table. Speaking with the club’s website he said:
“We’re aware of how tight the table is – we knew the scores from earlier in the day but that doesn’t change anything because our destiny is always in our own hands.
“There’s not point denying that we’re in a battle now or worrying about it, it’s about being together and we have to keep on doing what we have been.”
A brace from Chris Wood and a goal from Ashley Barnes gave Burnley all three points and put them level with Chris Hughton’s men on 27 points.
Murray was left ruing the chances and decisions the Seagulls wasted during their defeat:
“I felt as though we came up against another inspired goalkeeper in the first half and he kept them in the game,” Said Murray.
“From that point they went from strength to strength before a huge decision [a penalty shout Brighton had for handball not given]in the second half by the referee and the linesman.
“They can be season defining moments and if you get the opportunity to get back into the game and change the momentum like we saw against Fulham then it all changes.”
Brighton have a critical run of fixtures coming up with clashes against Leicester City, Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace, Cardiff City and Southampton are on the horizon.
