Sergio Aguero sketched his name further into Manchester City history by becoming their all-time top league goalscorer.
The Argentine scored twice in a dominant first half performance over Chelsea to reach 159 league goals for the title contenders, before adding a third goal from the penalty spot in the second half.
Aguero became just the sixth player in Premier League history to register 200 goal involvements for a single club in the competition, joining a club of elites alongside Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, and levelled Alan Shearer’s record of eleven Premier League hat-tricks.
The 30-year-old’s first of the afternoon came after Oleksandr Zinchenko lost possession, but the ball arrived at Aguero’s feet and the Argentine rifled a shot from 25 yards past Kepa Arrizabalaga. His second arrived six minutes later when Chelsea twice failed to clear the danger, with the ball falling to Aguero who scuffed a shot beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Aguero completed his hat-trick by stroking the ball into the ‘keepers bottom left-hand corner from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half.
Manchester City will return to the summit of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea, yet Liverpool continue to have a game in hand over their title challengers.
