Inter fans drown out racists and save club from second ban

Italian giants Inter Milan have avoided another ban for racism according to the site Football Italia.

Although the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) confirmed that Bologna defender Ibrahima Mbaye was abused by a minority on Sunday, the Nerazzurri avoided punishment.

The Senegalese player was targeted by a group of Inter ultras during Bologna’s 1-0 Serie A win at San Siro, even though the Senegalese started his career with the Nerazzurri. It appears though that rapid self-policing may have saved Inter from further sanctions.

However, the FIGC’s sporting judiciary ruled on Tuesday that while the chants were of a racist nature, they were quickly drowned out by other Beneamata supporters, who responded by whistling in disapproval.

Last month, Inter were ordered to play one home game behind closed doors after a group of their fans racially abused another Senegalese, Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli.
