Boost for Tottenham as capacity for Wembley games increased

Tottenham have had good news regarding a stadium, although it may not be the stadium Spurs fans would prefer to hear about.

After further delays to their new venue, which was due to be opened in the earlier stages of the season, Tottenham announced that February fixtures against Watford, Newcastle and Leicester would all be at Wembley.

These three fixtures will remain at the current capped capacity of 51,000 but a club statement explained an agreement for future matches at the national stadium:

“Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL)’s planning application for a variation on the 51,000 cap at Wembley Stadium – as a contingency measure in the event we require them – to host five domestic fixtures at a capped capacity of 62,000 and any additional Champions League home fixtures at the full 90,000 capacity was approved by Brent Council’s Planning Committee tonight”

Therefore, Tottenham’s Champions League Round of 16 fixture against Borussia Dortmund is sure to be a full house of 90,000 at Wembley as well as any further Premier League games now capped at 62,000.

The statement does feel as though it is in preparation for future games to be announced at Wembley as delays drag on for Tottenham fans, who are desperate to move into their new north London home.
