Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking forward to facing Tottenham at Wembley next weekend, claiming it is his ‘first test’ since taking over at the club.
Solksjaer made it five wins from five with his latest win in the FA Cup, as they beat Championship side Reading 2-0 to progress to the fourth round. But since the departure of Jose Mourinho, United have yet to face any of their top six rivals.
After that 2-0 win over Reading, Solksjaer spoke to the media;
“Spurs away at Wembley – that’s a proper test,”
“We are looking forward to that one because that’ll give me more of a reference on where we are against the top boys.
“We are not happy talking about fourth, fifth or sixth. In a year or two the club needs to move on and move up the table.”
The Norwegian former striker also addressed the notion that his start to life in charge of Manchester United was a favourable one for him;
“You go to Cardiff in the first game – it’s never easy. And then at home you’re expected to beat Bournemouth and Huddersfield.
“They’re never easy games. We’ve lost points before [in those games], there’s no easy games in the Premier League. Newcastle away – I thought that was a professional performance.
“And today, it’s never easy when you make nine changes, but we still won all of them.”
Manchester United take on Tottenham at Wembley on the 13th January, with the 16:30 kick off rounding up the Premier League fixtures for round 22 of the season. Tottenham hope to keep chase with Liverpool and Manchester City whilst United can go level on points with Arsenal if results go their way.
