Ipswich, the only club in the bottom 5 to score, drifting very slowly away from pack at bottom of Championship

Ipswich Town remain six points adrift at the bottom of the Championship after throwing away a lead at home to mid-table Bristol City.

Their 11 points from 19 games is now the worst points per game in the top five divisions, and their record of just one win all season equally so.

Under new manager Paul Lambert, The Blues went in front through Freddie Sears and held that lead to the interval.

However their defence caved in during the second half and The Robins scored three times.

First goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski diverted Famara Diedhiou’s effort into his own net, before Jamie Paterson and Senegalese substitute Famara Diedhiou notched goals around Sears’ second for the Tractor Boys, which had temporarily given Ipswich back their lead.

It could have been a worse week for Lambert.

Millwall lost at home to Birmingham and stay on 17 points along with Bolton and Reading who both lost 1-0 in Yorkshire on Tuesday, and Hull who drew 0-0 at home to Norwich, meaning at least Ipswich were the only club in the bottom five to actually score this midweek.

A trip to Nottingham Forest, who drew 5-5 with Aston Villa on Wednesday evening, is next up for Ipswich.

City move up to 25 points and 14th place overtaking Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.
