PSG host Liverpool in pivotal Champions League clash

After the international break, the UEFA Champions League is back this week and the match between PSG and Liverpool on Wednesday night is one of the more anticipated.

Jurgen Klopp’s team are looking for a win in the City of Lights after beating Neymar and company at home 3-2 when Roberto Firmino scored a last minute winning goal.

Wednesday’s meeting will be a pivotal moment for both teams in their Champions League journey. Liverpool currently have six points while PSG have five, Napoli are at the top of the group, also with six points but ahead of the Merseyside outfit on the head-to-head rule after they defeated The Reds 1-0 in Naples in early October.

If Thomas Tuchel’s men lose against Liverpool and Napoli beat Red Star Belgrade they will out of a competition they so badly hope to win.

Although Klopp’s team go to the Parc Des Princes with an advantage from the first match, since that meeting Liverpool have lost their match against Napoli 1-0, and it is never easy to beat PSG on their home turf.

Ahead of the clash both teams faces worrisome injuries and illnesses of top players including Sadio Mane, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

After being ill, Mane has been cleared to play in the European match. Neymar and Mbappe both got injured during the international break; Neymar suffered an adductor strain while playing for Brazil while his World Cup winning club teammate suffered a shoulder injury while playing for France during an international friendly. Although neither have been confirmed to play, both were seen training in the last few days which is hopefully a good sign.

Since their first match in mid-September, Tutchel has introduced young, upcoming players into the squad, hoping to fine the balance between the established superstars and budding talent.

Winger Moussa Diaby, who is only 19, has already scored two goals and has five assists after only playing in ten matches (four starts, six substitute). Thilo Kehrer has also made an impact after only playing a few minutes in some matches.

Tonight’s match is surely one that cannot be missed with both teams having top forwards like Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino for Liverpool and Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria and Neymar on the PSG side.
