SCHWEINSTEIGER HONORED BY MUNICH:  Prior to Tuesday’s Testimonial where Bastian Schweinsteiger plays one half for the Fire and one half for Bayern Munich, the midfielder was honored first by the Bavarian Government with the Order of Merit and by Bayern by becoming the 18th member of their Hall of Fame.

“Of course, it’s a great honor to enter the Hall of Fame at such a big club along with all the other great personalities,” said Schweinsteiger. On his big day, the former Germany captain didn’t want to appear empty-handed at the museum of his favorite club so he brought a very special gift with him – with immediate effect his World Cup winner’s medal from the 2014 final in Rio will be displayed at the Erlebniswelt close to his star.

To welcome Schweinsteiger, the Allianz Arena will have a #31—Schweinsteiger’s shirt number—on the facade of the Arena on a red background. Schweinsteiger played 500 matches for Bayern in 12 years and won 22 trophies with the Bavarian club. A sellout crowd of 75,000 is expected in this “Farewell Match” where Schweinsteiger will play one half for the Fire and one half for Bayern.

The match will be streamed live on flolive.tv. Fans can purchase a monthly pass at $9.99. Kickoff for the match is at 1:30pm CT.

THOUGHTS ON THE RED STARS:  Saturday’s win against Orlando just may be the win of the season for the Red Stars. Sam Kerr is on a purple patch and everyone else has also raised their game with the NWSL’s leading scorer. Now, the Red Stars need just a point from their final two matches to clinch the last spot in the playoffs. Their next game is at home to Sky Blue FC on Tuesday, September 4th at 6:30p CT.
