Mexico 1 : 0 Germany
There is a way to silence your doubters and those that have been so defiant and doubtful of the abilities of Professor Juan Carlos Osorio as boss of the Mexican National team. Still patience is a virtue for the man from Colombia. His eleven performed wonders and delivered a historical and much celebrated win over the tournament overall favorites, Germany.
He chose a 4-2-3-1 formation sending a lone Javier Chicharito Hernandez alone at the front accompanied by Carlos Vela, Hirving Lozano and Miguel Layun. Defense wins games and for the El Tri, the defensive backfield delivered a one of a kind performance in Luzhniki Stadium with zealous and fierce defending against the Germans to persevere until the end.
The match was dominated in its entirety by the German, the overall statistics showing a total control of 67% of possession and also with 26 shots over 13 from Mexico. The Germans had nine on target versus four from the Mexicans.
However only shot mattered and it came for Hirving Chucky Lozano after an assist from Chicharito. He took the likes of Thomas Muller, Toni Kross and Manuel Neuer on to deliver the game winner in the 35th minute.
They played with an all-around confidence, hungry and filled with lots of determination. One could ask many questions of those who doubted Professor Osorio who in the past were asking for his resignation from El Tri. The demands for his removal came from noted journalists in Mexico as well as its vocal fan base. This reached a height when when Mexico lost 7-0 in Copa America against Chile and Confederations Cup to Germany.
Osorio’s stubbornness is making him persevere and maybe delivering even more notable and important results. Finally, after eleven tries for El Tri against Germany, this win marks its second over Die Mannschaft.
Historico, si Señor!
Teamwork and spirit were the main traits for the Mexican National Team in delivering an important win over the defending champions Germany. This included not only Lozano, but also the persistence of Layun, Vela’s leadership along with Chicharito Hernandez and a great performance by their underrated goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
Some of the doubters are holding their breath and their fire.
