Brazilian head coach Dunga has been sacked by the Brazilian Football Association following his country’s disappointing exit from the tournament at the hands of Holland. The Dutch beat them 2-1 in a quarter final after going a goal behind. The game also saw Felipe Melo sent off.
Dunga joins a string of head coaches who have left their posts after disappointing World Cups including France’s Raymond Domemench and Italy’s Marcello Lippi. Although former Chelsea boss ‘Big Phil’ Scolari has ruled himself out, he is among those being spoken of as a replacement. Also in the frame are AC Milan coach Leonardo and former coach Wanderley Luxemburgo. The pressure of the job will be even more immense than normal as Brazil host the next World Cup.
North Korea’s Kim Jong Hun has also departed but there was good news or Fabio Capello who did not have his contract terminated by the English Football Association. South Africa’s Carlos Albert Parreira has departed but the most extreme reaction came in Nigera where the President Goodluck Jonathan suspended the entire football association for two years.
