Ivory Coast Seeking New Manager

Just days after one African World Cup qualifier filled a vacancy for manager, having sacked the man that got them to the finals, another country have somewhat inexplicably done the same.

The highly fancied Ivory Coast side have dispensed with the services of Bosnia-born Frenchman Vahid Halilhodzic despite just one defeat in the last 24 games. That loss was in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, when the Elephants lost 3-2 to Algeria after a late goal by Algerian substitute Hameur Bouazza two minutes into extra time.

Ivory Coast FA president Jacques Anouma confirmed the sacking on Saturday, and Halilhodzic claimed he had only been informed of his dismissal by fax that day.

Anouma said the successor would be purely for the tournaments as he is scheduled to become manager of Turkey in August. There seems to be no manager in place for their friendly against South Korea this Wednesday at QPR’s Loftus Road ground in West London. This will be a good practise for the Africans who play North Korea in the summer, as well as Brazil and Portugal.
